I found a silly way to use ChatGPT (In an inconsequential way)

So I love to pick 'themes' for my pokemon playthroughs.
Often I'll name my pokemon after x game or show's characters.
But lately I've been struggling to pick names, so I thought of a fun minigame.
Using Chat GPT to give me ten characters that 'best match' the pokemon in question. And then add those names to the wheel of names, and spin once.

It's given me some pretty funny / good results so far. And The Wheel of Names adds some randomness so it's not purely Chat GPT doing the legwork.

The only struggle is that it seems to really like picking main characters, which is fine, but if you want a wider scope you gotta ask it for obscure characters.

As if those little pokemon are not tortured enough... Now they dont even get thoughtful names....

I suppose its okay, all they know is 1's and 0's anyway.

I am not sure I have ever used ChatGPT.

Im a pretty boring internet user.
I've only ever used it for silly things just to see what it comes up with. Or things that would make me chuckle (like naming pokemon)
Throwing random ass prompts at it can be pretty hilarious because it takes every prompt completely seriously. Generally the more exact you get with the prompt the more likely you are to get something comically detailed.

It did come up with a good name for my mew, I'm naming the mons after Dragon quest characters in Shining Pearl, and it picked Sandy as one of the options. I don't know much about the character (have not played the Dragon Quest game she's in) but the brief overview of the character being an ancient being with immense power and possibly being the most 'mew like' of all the suggestions made me smile lol

I continue to avoid using any more AI until ethics and environmental protections can be implemented around it. 😅🙃
me too but I don't think using it for quick prompts about naming the pokemon is as bad as say, using it to develop an entire game / story/art ...

All prompts are equal in my eyes. :/ Or rather, the small, quick prompts add up too quickly to be waved off as fine for me.

Granted, I'm also the kind of person that will forgo using plastic straws if I can. 🤷‍♀️

While I don't share Fyri's concerns, I do look to avoid it, but its pretty integrated into the search engines now. It pops up whether I want it to or not.

I am not sure how much I can trust it. If I go looking for how to do something on a switch, AI has the answer....but I still prefer to vendor docs to make sure.

Someone on youtube asked ChatGPT to give them a set of Vows (as a joke) with an extremely specific example.
Chat GPT decided to plan the ENTIRE wedding instead of just doing the vows like it was asked lol it was hilariously detailed.

I typically avoid using it for anything I'd regret later (that might show up in search engines) or anything where I'd much rather do the work myself.

but random stuff like naming Pokemon is fine I think, it seems to have been pretty good with picking characters based on pokemon if you feed it enough intel. Pretty good for stuff like a Nuzlocke run where you might not last ten minutes before the mon dies in the run.

If you really want to go down the AI rabbit hole, ask an AI to search for yourself... and give it a few hint at where to start.
Luckily I am fairly well hidden as there are at least 2 people with more prominent on-line presences than myself.
But, in this case Gemini, did discover somethings I thought were not public knowledge.

I've seen a youtube video or three about a Minecraft youtuber pitting different AI against eachother in different minecraft challenges. (Chat GPT, Claude, and I think something else but I forget the name) and some of the time they did...fairly well?

You should give those videos a watch, they're pretty funny. (Claude is way too detailed about describing his builds lol)

I don't share those concerns, either, and for the same reasons - it's become too ubiquitous to avoid. And before anyone says anything, yes - all usage adds up. But homo sapiens are an incredibly adaptable and ingenuous species, and I do believe that we'll find ways to keep AI from being too big a problem, either ethically or environmentally.

For me, ChatGPT is a marvelous sounding board. I keep in mind at all times that it's programmed to be hyper-affirming, and like anything else, take what is useful, and leave the rest.
