I have numerous times sprayed wine or coffee over my keyboard when reading something amusing.
My wife and I do this competitively. One spit take or choke, one point. Simple rules. Utter savagery. The pets have little score cards and our writing partner minds the regulations.

God, I love being married. lol

Oh lord, I wish I could have seen their faces.
The Raid: Going extremely well even with the newbie helping out.
The Newbie: So guys, wtf is Teabagging?
The entire group: .... [did...I read that right?]
lol

If it helps, I never really knew what teabagging was either (when I was a youngan browsing the internet at first) until I saw it. I had gathered from the phrase it was some form of taunting an opponent? But until I saw it I had no clue. Then when I saw it I was like oh...wow...humiliating guys...closest thing I ever do to Teabagging is Taunting an opponent in Smash brothers when I get a KO. But even that's more honorable than a teabag animation wise.

When I was in High school I could type reasonably fast, but, not very accurately. I could reach speeds of 200-ish WPM if I tried, but, that's only if you ignored the mistakes lol Now I haven't taken a speed test lately, But I'm sure it's a lot slower now.
After a bit playing arenas with my guild - same guys as in that 40-man - I decided why should the teabag bearers have all the fun. About 30 seconds later I'd written a yell macro and invented the Cookie Press. ;D

I assume this means like a general sense not words I look up a lot of words you shouldn't like include the exact fall of the feudal system or adding exactly who Rosa parks refused to get up for.

When I have a joke fail to land, I'll dissect it. I'm an autist - fairly sure this isn't news - and humor is actually really hard. lol
Hard in what way?

I think it more means if I don't fully understand it (or at least have some general knowledge of it) I'd probably not use it in my story.

Like if I don't fully know a good amount of what ADHD is I should do the proper research first before using it. Probably best not to force a character to have it either.

In the instance of the Hectochromia (I think I spelled it right) I knew what it was but only on a surface level. (I knew it meant the person had two tone irises )

In that humor relies heavily on social cues to make the funny flow, like timing. Timing is crucial to humor. And timing is also crucial to communication between adult humans, which is what trips up so many autists. We don't speak People-Monkey very well, and the other People-Monkeys pick up on that.

But, my mom was a satirist, and my dad was just all charm and humor, so growing up I really loved to make people laugh. I just didn't know how I did it, so I was a lot like a 7 year-old with a working joke. Tell it again and again, trying to pick it apart to find what makes it tick. This doesn't help make friends. Finally - like years of this - I figured out that Comedy is simply Tragedy... with timing. I honed my masking into a fine and calculated art. And now I can combine the two skillsets and most casual observers can't pick me out even by avoiding eye contact. Everyone thinks my eye contact is perfect.

I can count on one hand how many people I'll make eye contact with.

All whilst still batshit crazy.

I've actually developed heterochromia as I've gotten older. I have a white bar through my left eyebrow. My wife thinks I look piratical.

Comedy and humour are very complex. You can illustrate both the funny aspects of life and also the sad side of things, and it is this contrast which, when done properly, often makes for the best comedy. The late Jerry Lewis is perhaps the real master of comedy. His films are very complex, but are also (in my view) very rewarding to watch. Other examples would be Charlie Chaplin, and also some of the Laurel and Hardy films. You could also look at several of Shakespeare's plays, like King Lear or Macbeth.

Twelfth Night. Probably my favorite.

Then we get the real fun. Nailing the timing, which is often an auditory thing, in text where you have little control of how a reader paces your prose.

Timing is something you have no control over in written humour, which is why written humour relies on other aspects of emotion to work. In that sense the contrast between tragedy and comedy becomes even more important. The later Discworld novels are very good examples of this, and it's an aspect of the late Sir Terry Pratchett's writing that isn't always appreciated.
