Need pointers in how to write a duo-type character like Venom and Eddy or Max and Steel

So my character is an Otaku-cop who is chosen as the second hero to protect the world and its inhabitants which are Men and Mystics. He is chosen by a mysterious creature with its dark-red fluid mass is covered by a silver looking metal as if its wearing armor. (Imagine a red slime wearing armor)

What I had in mind so far is the Otaku-cop being shy but muscular and has strong belief in either personal justice or justice in general (due to traumatic background). A gentle giant of sorts. While the creature has more of a witty personality but can be serious and wise when needed to. It also has amnesia due to magical circumstances. I plan to reveal later on that the moldable metal its attached to is actually its prison, which in the past, it learned to manipulate and change it the same way he does with his body. This.means he can change the shape and form of the metal but is still attached to it.

What do you guys think? Too weird or weird enough to be interesting and appealing?

I do have experience with writing duo-characters, but not exactly like this. I think this idea is plausible to work with in your writing. On the surface it seems really complicated and I think you could ease your readers into its complexity. At least that's what's been working for me. There is usually a dynamic of establishing trust and comraderie between the two characters, one that makes for good story-telling. Seems like you've already got that planned out tho. Yeah, overall this could work if you're nuanced about it.

Thank you for the comment. I guess the problem now lies in how I present their relationship with each other. I also have problem though with their reason for staying together. Other than being the "chosen one", iam having difficulty in making up a reason that wont make the human MC useless without the creature. Thoughts ive had so far are: creature needs to attach to a living creature of the realm it is currently in to stay there, or it can only attach to creatures without mana, predestined fate or by circumstance like being stuck with each other due to reasons. Can i ask why your duo-characters are duo-characters? Like what makes their relationship with each other significant or what says that they need to be together?

I understand that dilemma. In my story, my MC is a dark elf who is the only being alive who's compatible with the disembodied soul of a powerful Sorceress. When the dark elf first finds out that she has two souls inside her, it shakes her world and makes her do some stupid things. But by the end of book one, she comes to accept it at the very least. Book two is where I try to build a friendship between her and this ethereal being, so that she feels more empowered by the Sorceress rather than stuck with her. It's not the same as your setting, but I made it work by making my dark elf the only person who's capable of 'housing' two souls in that sense. Any other host would die a slow and painful death.

Yeah, that works with your because of the setting i suppose and at least one of them has a need from the other one. Mine just seems cheesy and played out. Do you think the forced to be together trope is played out or does it still work? I kinda wanna try them just choosing to be together because they simply want to, like how your friends with someone because you both feel really compatible with each other and it just feels natural to be together. However, iam not sure yet if thats a good idea or if it has a lot of holes in it or maybe thats hard to do because iam first timer. What do you think?

I think choosing to be together is good. It might make for a richer story if there's some conflict between the two at first, but if that's not in your taste, that's fine. Your MC probably needs a solid motivation, other than being a chosen one who seeks justice.

This is just an idea: but maybe your story could be about this guy proving himself worthy of being a host for the symbiote creature. Like, instead of just being worthy at the beginning, he could go through trials in order to become so.
