Short stories and poems

Hey, so I just got out of a creative writing class and we work-shopped several works throughout the semester. Now, I've come to the summer and I want to get some of my work published. I have two short short stories and a few poems that I would like to get out there. However, I've only really ever looked into how to get my novel published (still working on editing that). Does anyone know of where I should look to start getting my stories published?

My plan is to get a few of my smaller works out there before I try for my larger project, but I'm not sure where to start on these. I'd like to start submitting before the summer's over...

I suggest starting with something like The Submission Grinder or Duotrope (subscription). Otherwise do a lot of googling and reading and learning about various markets for short works.

Literary magazines of whatever genre your short stories are would be a good place to start. I'll see if I can find some links for you.
