Tell Me how much you know about Pokemon.

I am aware there aren't many gamers on this forum, or if there are they probably don't play as much as I do.
So I'm curious, what is the extent of your knowledge of Pokemon.

One notch above nil.

My daughter used to be into Pokémon.

I believe it is based on Bushido.
A lot of it for the first few games is based on different regions of Japan, though in later gens they switched it up (like one gen was based on Europe and another Gen was based on France) If you want a light RPG that's a lot of fun and easy to play (Type matchups are hard to learn but once you do it's like riding a bike) I'd give em a go. The show is genuinely good too in some seasons.

Well enough to know that there's four pokemon that have a claim to being the first pokemon.
That is one part of the lore that kinda bugs me, I mean they made it 'work' I guess, but it's clear that the later 'lore' was made up in the development of the future games and they weren't thinking of that stuff during the development of Red Blue/Green and Yellow.
Also the 'official' verbal pronunciation of Arceus is dumb, I refuse to accept it lol

More than I would like.

Long before Pokemon, Japan has had this notion of young kids getting things to fight for them. Pokemon is a extension of Jonny Sokko and Ultraman, and Godzilla, and many things before.

I played the Card game with my kids, mostly cause they liked it. Both my kids were into the DS games of many colors, Red/Green, Gold/Silver, Black/White...

I got to hear all about it, and my kids mostly did not like my commentary, which sometimes was along the lines of...so... You captured things in the wild, enslaved them, and make them fight in endless boughts of violence for your entertainment. My daughter might go further and say...but they love me. To which I would say, but did they have a choice?

I know a lot of the critters, and know that both my kids did not like Ash Ketchum. My son still routinely plays Pokemon online (some arena game I forget the name of). My daughter probably still replays all the DS games.

Pokemon is does not live in my heart, its a generation or two down from me.

I think I have seen 3 pokemon movies.

I do remember Arceus. He was a big hit for a little while.

If it makes you feel any better: PETA took a similar stance about pokemon, and even made a Parody game called Pokemon Black and Blue. They were a bit more extreme compared to your view though, comparing it to illegal dog fighting. (It is seen as a sport in universe yes, particularly in Sword and Shield but it's sanctioned and controlled, I don't think there's ever been 'underground' battling like there are illegal dog/whatever fights. Though there are criminal 'gangs' who use pokemon for malicious things.)

That's fine, there's plenty of games I know quite a bit about but don't live in my heart. Skyrim is one of the things I've dabbled in, but I'm not a 'fan' who plays it religiously. Same way with Monster Hunter. I dabble, but due to my skill ceiling in these types of games, I just can't justify spending too much time in them. Traditional fighting games like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, also not my thing, my skill ceiling for that stuff is pants lol

Its does not. PETA would probably not like my position of many things they care about.

I just said that to be contrary. As a way of showing there are many ways to look at things. I wanted my kids to consider things on a deeper level. I cant say it was effective ;) But that's the Dad they got.

I will say, I did like the rock paper scissors nature of pokemon, though it was a bit larger than just three items. It did have a lot of strategy and tactics to it.

I liked the Yugioh cartoon, but the card game was undisciplined. I did not like it.

You should see how nuts the competitive scene is in pokemon, it's the one part of the series I refuse to engage in. Too many sweats even in casual play.

The Card Game is unhinged because they keep adding new rules while not revising old rules to accommodate for it. Now the card game isn't even fun because it's all about burning your opponents deck on the first turn.

The show is Goated though

I know how to play competitive Pokemon but I'm not very good. Like I'm okay at monotype battles in Pokemon showdown but I'm really bad at all the other metas.
Additionally, I have played like a third of Pokemon all in, a pokemon rom hack. I might get pokemon emerald.
Also I made some clay pokemon, and regularly watch Mandjtv and Wolfevgc, pokemon YouTubers.
