Setting Compendium

I. The World of Liluya

Liluya is a continent steeped in elemental energy and magical life. It is divided into five main regions:

West – Volcanoes and Deserts: Scorched and arid, this region is rich in fire-element ores and is the primary habitat of the dragons.

South – The Elven Forest: An ancient, dense forest, birthplace of the elves, where all four basic elements are especially active.

Central – Human City-States: Medieval-style human territories governed by lords and guilds. Technological advancements include gunpowder and elemental-forged weaponry.

East – Azure Sea: Known as "The Silent Expanse," mysterious and partially unexplored. Legends speak of sleeping sea spirits.

North – Frozen Tundra: A desolate, freezing land filled with water and wind elements. Home to monsters and remnant dragonkind.

II. Historical Timeline

1. Origin of the Elemental Pact (1000 years ago): The ancient elven elder Istarlu discovered the continent's elemental ore veins and forged the first contract using the old elven tongue. This gave birth to magic and defined the linguistic and magical standards used by all races.

2. The Vanishing (Unknown Period): Frequent war and overuse of magic caused elements to stop recognizing mages. Only a few gifted individuals—true mages—could still see and interact with elemental forces.

3. Dragon Calamity (500 years ago): Dragons emerged from the West, consuming elemental energy and leaving desolation behind. Unlike mages, dragons destroy to release power. A coalition of elves and humans pushed them back into volcanic exile.

4. Present Day: The dragons are stirring again. Mage populations are declining. A girl in a golden robe may be the continent's last hope for restoring order.

III. Race Overview

Humans: Lifespan: ~80 years Structure: City-state, feudal systems Magic Use: Few can see or use magic, most rely on mages for element-harvesting and weapon crafting.

Elves: Lifespan: ~200 years Innate connection to elemental magic, many work as researchers or instructors. Some retain nature-based powers like plant control.

Dragons: Consume elements to live; evolve by devouring elemental types. Can transform into human forms. Possess brute-force magic via destructive release. Still active in hidden parts of the world.

IV. Magic System

Basic Elements:

  • Fire: Destruction, explosion, advanced into lightning
  • Water: Healing, manipulation, used to create ice
  • Wind: Speed, slicing, levitation, purification
  • Earth: Defense, construction, metal forging, mining
Special Elements:

  • Light: Healing, hypnosis, shielding, even time-freezing; overuse can accumulate internal darkness
  • Dark: Corruption, creature summoning, teleportation; dangerous, high-tier mages only

V. Education System

Awakening Test (Age 12): Children interact with elemental crystals. Any reaction implies elemental sensitivity. Most only react to one element—multi-elemental resonance is rare and highly valued.

Academy Training (Age 12–18): Subjects include: elemental theory, ancient elven language, spellcraft, magical weapons, tactics, history, real combat.

Graduation (Age 18): Students undergo final trials and are assigned into sectors:

  • Royal Mage Corps
  • Magical Research or Weapon Forge
  • Border Defense
  • Contract Mages
  • Independent Mages

VI. Creatures and Monsters

Common Threats:

  • Bandits: Human or fallen half-elves, ambushers
  • Goblins: Small, group-dwelling, weak magical abilities
  • Elemental Boars: Mutated wild pigs with fire or earth traits
Northern Tundra Beasts:

  • Yeti: Huge ice-furred beasts with ice-fist attacks
  • Frost Fairies: Winged small beings with illusion and freezing magic

Gurkhal

Auror
Ok, so the "golden-robed elven girl" is the potential savior of this world? That's what I take from it. And I will assume that she will go through the education system to use magic, so that she can save the world?

It looks perfectly ok as some world building notes but I'm not sure how these things will connect with the story you have in mind as I have no idea about what the story is save that I would think it involves this elf girl saving the world from the dragons.

I will add something to my questions for the story, I will presume, you want to write. What is it with or in your story that sets it apart from all other fantasy stories about the world getting saved from some great evil by ultimately a single person?
