That's me!

I don't have much to say, and I feel totally awkward infront of a new crowd, even if it is online. But I hope that I can learn something from the brilliant minds present here, and pass on what I can offer to others. I'm an aspiring writer waiting to start my freshman year in college... going for a Bachelor in Creative Writing - wish me luck. With my inevitable doom coming with another job as the school year starts I predict myself losing my one-on-one time with Aros and my Heroes and Villains that populate its surface.

I've been wanting to become a writer since I first saw the Balrog in Peter Jackson's rendition of The Lord of the Rings when I was about 10 or so. Oh great another Tolkien-er, right? Don't judge a book by its cover... unless the cover looks AWESOME.

I'm a self-learned fantasy writer, although I'd rather not call myself a true writer until I've completed a work. I've loved medieval times ever since I was a little boy, and that admiration never really died x). Hopefully this life-long dream of mine to bring my work to an appreciative audience will someday be realized. I've always been the creative one, and I love making things that others can enjoy. I've been drawing prior to Kindergarten and still occasionally pick up the pencil to help sketch one of my characters or edit my maps of Aros.

Anyways before you get bored, my name is Codey and I hope I've found the right place... at about midnight on a saturday. See you on the forums :)

Thanks! And I'll try, although Freshman year won't yield many benefitial classes for me writing wise. All of those dumbed-down prereq's and such... oh well! Hope to get to know you as well!

Welcome, Codey,

Self-taught writer--that's the best way to go. You can pick up some things via classes and other writers, but each writer, I think, has to incorporate what works for them. There is no 'secret formula' or 'magical method' to writing success, although there are necessary ingredients such as: actually writing and perseverence.

Good luck with classes. Maybe it's out of line, but I'd recommend a second major or focus in your studies, in addition to creative writing. Why? First, writing is a tough nut to break into and earn a living. Having a backup career or set of skills can help a lot when working toward a career in writing. Second, branching out, knowing and learning a lot not related directly to writing provides wonderful fodder for stories and novels. History, computer science and programming, engineering--you name it. Knoweldge never hurts.

Very glad you joined us here.

Welcome to our home Codey. Most of us are Tolkien fans here as well; he is the Godfather of our craft.

Get involved and have fun. I hope you both lean and share here.

AMEN! :D

Welcome to the forums, Codey! I'm also a Tolkien fan. I had just managed to read through the whole series when my dad told me they announced the making of the movies. Ah, good times. I am also a self-taught writer. My only text-books were other novels.
