Writing is Dialogue, not Monologue

This is a good reminder that even the stories we write for fun can be interpreted in powerful ways by every reader. Thanks for sharing.

Great sentiment. Makes me feel guilty for never reading anything by him.
Here's something I found interesting though (Interesting to me. Interesting in QI sense heh) the word dialogue isn't necessarily about two or more people in conversation. The idea is that, surely, that would be a duologue? That one person can be in dialogue is a intriguing thought really. Delve deeper. How does that work? What is that person bringing to the table when they speak? What context drives them?

The main thing I took from that article is:
Don't micromanage the experience of reading a book. That doesn't however mean remove all sense of emotion from your writing. It's YOUR writing. Do what you have to do and love doing it, but don't expect everyone to get it.

Ah, this would have been great before I called it quits on fiction writing. This is a good article though, everyone should give it a read.

By the way, speaking of dialogue, "Writing Dialogue" by Tom Chiarella is a great little book. I recommend the second chapter and his columns breakdown of writing out dialogue with more than one person involved.

Oh, I'm not stopping writing, nor am I shying away from the story. It was that fiction wasn't the way to express my creativity. I have some ideas now, and they are flowing like crazy. So, it appears I made a good decision.
