What other form of media do you picture your book as?

Greetings! I've been doing a lot of pondering lately (as usual) and I've come to the conclusion that my characters and world would fit best in the context of an anime or at least an animated film. Frankly, this was inevitable considering many of the traits I placed in the world (weird hair colors, some crazy weaponry, occasional acrobatics in fight scenes, and you get the idea.)

It's really weird. I feel that we all picture our stories as a medium other than a book at least at one point in our lives. Some people picture movies, others picture video games, or even comics. So I was wondering, what other mediums do you see your characters best portrayed in, and why?

I think for the most part I think about what kind of soundtrack would go best with my book. I listen to lots of instrumental and soundtrack type music, so naturally I imagine my own having a soundtrack. What music would go with certain scenes, characters, etc. I'm actually working on playlists for the characters to relieve the itch somewhat.

Also, I've thought about it as a comic, with eerie, moody artwork.

My WIP would probably best work as a TV series. My novel series is about four students of a school to teach those with special abilities how to use their powers (think X-men in LOTR). the early episodes would take place at the school, with the students activating and training their abilities. Part way through the season the four main characters would go on their adventure to save a friends life, which is the main theme of the story. Every one or two chapters could be an episode...Anyone know any TV executives

I think Southerner would work well as a movie or a video game. Sometimes when I'm writing I get frustrated because I know that my exact version of Southerner's world and characters will only ever exist in my head; every reader will have a version of their own.

Southerner is too fully fleshed out to ever be able to describe in full (at least, not without boring readers to death). A movie version would be able to capture the characters, cultures, and environments with better efficiency and style than writing could. And, oh my god, I'm just imagining the costume and set design. Just thinking of what kind of costuming I could create with a budget similar to the Star Wars prequels...oh man. Oh wow.

When I write, I automatically imagine it as a movie. I've got music, cinematography, lighting, costume designs, etc all in my head. Sometimes I find specific actors who could play the characters. This is because I'm a movie addict, I end up watching a new movie every other day on average. But it's also helpful with mood and description.

My current WIP would work great in movie form, maybe even better than book form. It's surreal with weird imagery, and I think imagery would be very effective if the reader could actually see it.

For those who grew up in the 80's like me, I imagine my story a but like a corny 80-90's Disney live action film. Like Angels in the Outfeild.

A lot of my inspiration also comes from games. Jrpgs come to mind, they were one of my first forays into seeing storytelling.

I'm a huge film geek, and a film major, so I very quickly see my stories as films. Sometimes I picture them as comics or graphic novels, depending on the story. Some inspiration comes from games as well. Mostly though, it's film. And something that I found interesting about taking film classes is, the more that I learn about making film, the more I can picture my novel in my head, and because of that, the more I can easily describe what's going on in a scene. It has been super helpful.

Okay, just...ignore all this. After thinking about it a little longer, I realized what I've always pictured Southerner as--an animated movie in the style of Dreamworks' Prince of Egypt. Words cannot express how much I love this movie, how much of an influence it's had on my art style and my approach to worldbuilding and storytelling. I just...man. If there's ever a screen adaptation of Southerner (haha), I want it to be just like Prince of Egypt. It already is in my head.

I picture mine as a comic! I draw my characters a lot, and often, scenes come to me in the form of pictures rather than words. This can be good for setting a mood, but also bad when I can't quite translate from image to written scene without leaving too much out. I might try making short little comic strips of scenes in my novel to try it out.

Unless of course you are a billionaire self-producing or are otherwise the artist creating whatever content with no controls. Writers often complain of what happens when movies are made, quite naturally. Heck, screenwriters complain about what gets done with their work.

Personally I think it would be fascinating to see what someone else did with my creation in a movie or whatever, but in a low-key way, I think the most fascinating thing to have happen would be to have the setting and stories turn into a table top RPG, this is where you as writer lose the most control, but the people experiencing it can get the most immersed in the world you've created, while taking it places you would never have imagined. It's a small market full of hardcore fantasy folks, if somehow a phenom could be created in that market, it would be intellectually fascinating to see what could be done with the world inside my head, and probably aggravating and beautiful at the same time, LOL.
