Final Fantasy Favorites?

What's everybody's favorite game from the Final Fantasy series? Mine is X. FFX was my first Final Fantasy experience and will always be my favorite in terms of gameplay and story. I feel like it is the most immersive and makes you feel more for the characters than any other game because of the fact that it was the very first FF game with voice actors and the next gen graphics (at the time) brought you closer to the action than any of the previous games. XII and XIII improved on gameplay, but didn't really get me as interested in the characters stories. What do you guys think?

I thought X was solid. I started with VII, so it will always hold a place in my heart with it's quirky humor and blocky hands on the characters. VI is also one of the best, storyline wise.

Unfortunately, I have a bad habit of not finishing games, even if I get realy close. IX was the only one I managed to beat. I got really close on VVII, VIII, X, and XII.

Also, Kingdom Hearts is awesome and I did finish both 1 and 2.

I so agree with you on Kingdom Hearts. I played KH first and it was what got me into FF. I have over 100 hours on the first KH game and I still go back to it sometimes just to re-live the old days and fight Sephiroth a bunch of times. KH2 was also amazing and I still have so much trouble deciding which one I like more. I just wish Square would pack up all the needless FF spinoffs and sequels they're doing and get KH3 going before the next gen consoles are released!

I've never really gotten very far in any Final Fantasy, IV was cool because i liked Cecil. Can I say Dissidia:). I personally like the Persona series over Final Fantasy. Ahhh, Persona 3.

I've enjoyed every FF after the first. Are you talking main series or are spin-offs OK? My favorite VIDEO GAME, let alone FF, is Final Fantasy Tactics. The remake for the PSP was even better, amazingly. I've put hundreds of hours into that game.

In terms of main series, I enjoyed VII quite a lot, but find it somewhat unplayable nowadays (I'm spoiled)—still love the idea of VII though, and thought Advent Children Complete was quite spectacular as well.

My absolute favorite would have to be XII with VIII following close behind. I thought XII's story and characters were top-notch and the battle system was my favorite of the series. I could still play VIII today and loved everything about it as well.

I completely agree about the voice acting in X (and in general in video games). I know the first 40+ hour game that I played from beginning to end was Lunar 2: Eternal Blue, and I credit the voice acting and how much more invested I was in the characters as a consequence of that as the reason for finishing without stopping and restarting like I do with so many other games.

Final Fantasy X was my first and favorite. The story was so awesome and Auron was just so cool. I read in a gameinformer magazine that final fantasy x was voted best romance (I always liked Rikku over Tuna though)

Final Fantasy X beat out Final Fantasy VIII for best romance?!:confused:

Inconceivable!

Anyway, speaking of PS1 generation onward, those were the only two with a romance to speak of anyway, so it makes sense that FFX would win (as it is more popular, not because it is a better romance).

I'm not sure why they don't have more romance in the FF games. FF is rife with moe (here I mean, the gamer develops romantic feelings for one or more of the characters; if this definition disagrees with your idea of moe, then please pretend I didn't say it and instead had a long description of what I actually meant...), so you would think they would exploit those storylines more. If I have one criticism in FFXII, it is the lack of a real romance.

In fact, if I have a criticism of FF Tactics, it is again that there is no real romance!

...and yet those are two of my favorite games ever.

Maybe their fear is that they can't do romances effectively, so they only put in a romance every 3-5 games?

For FFX, I was a much larger fan of Rikku as well, but she had a little sister relationship with Tidus so it is pretty clear why that didn't work out.

FFVI (FFIII on SNES) would be my favourite, I have played through it more times than any other game. IX and X were both awesome. Its sad to see what they have turned in to RIP old fashioned RPGs.

My fave was FFIX. I spent hours searching all the extras and hidden secrets, just to learn more about the world it was set in. The characters were well designed and the plot was engaging. Oh, and Kuja was awesome!!
I also loved FFVI, a little more technologically advanced than FFIX and most of VI's predecessors. The story was mind blowing and the climax was near perfection (don't worry, I won't spoil it!)

That said (gets her rock proof umbrella out) I hated FFX. The voice acting was terrible, "I hate you!" had less emotion than "pass me the soup." I will however give it a thumbs up for the graphics and FMV's. The story and the journey just felt far too linear for my taste, most of the game involved walking in a (wonkey) straight line. Unfortunately, this is becoming more apparent with subsequent releases.

As for FFXII, George Lucas is going to sue somebody!!

FFVII, although very good, falls a little shy for me when compared to IX and VI. There is nothing inherently wrong with it, but I do think it suffers from the numerous sequels. Let's face it, Dirge of the Cerberus was an abomination, as well as tracked a story we have already seen in the parent title. Although I admit, I thoroughly enjoyed Crisis Core, despite the fact I knew the ending and therefore didn't wish to get there (I did, and it's good!)

As for the online titles, FFXI was fun for a few years, I think the "Goddess" expansion was really the end for me. FFXIV, worst MMO launch ever! I actually felt personally insulted they tried to pull that one off. I haven't seen the rebirth version yet, but I've signed up for the Beta and I hope SE doesnt blow its last chance with me.

All in all, most the FF titles have something to offer, some a little more than others. Luckily, there are so many titles in the series, at least one game from the franchise is likely to suit anybody's tastes.

IX hands down.
I've played all of 6, at the end of 7, played half of 8, some of 10, and 9 twice through and so far none even come close to its utter beauty and the fun I had playing it.
The game play was flawless, the plot interesting and fun, the characters were great, the music was just amazing and the lovestory between Dagger and Zidane was just perfect in my opinion.

Yeah I hear a lot of people couldn't get into it because of the beginning - it took a while to get into actual fighting, but I don't know I loved that part of it.

I have enjoyed most the FF games, though I did struggle with XII, never really could get into it.
I think VII will always live strongly in the hearts of FF players/fans but my altogether favourite has to be IX, I think they really nailed it with that one and as the years have gone by I fear they are losing the true feeling of the series.
FFX was a good game and I have many a friend that started with it who became avid FF followers, more so than I was :).

As for the Kingdom hearts games.... I will say I enjoyed the first and second, loved the story, loved the characters and loved the gameplay and many an hour was happily given over to them. Then we have the other games, do not get me wrong, it started well. "Oh an KH game that explains/ expands on what we already know that is cool." then they just carried on. I have not played through them fully but feel the whole "Flogging a dead horse" to be an apt way of expressing my feelings. All I which to shout at them is "BRING US KH3"

For the FFVII fans, has anyone seen the FFVII Advent Children Complete movie?

(if you waste your time with Advent Children without the complete, then there will be several points in the movie that you go, wow, that's stupid, why aren't they explaining this at all? Are we just supposed to be completely confused? and then when you watch Advent Children Complete you'll go, Oh hey, the entire movie makes sense now with no rough spots whatsoever)

My favourite game is also IX. In fact, that's how I ended up meeting my husband - we both had listed 'FFIX' as one of our favourite games on a dating site, so I sent him a message about how that was clearly the best and then a year later we were married.

@Zero Angel, I've got mixed feelings about it. It's a gorgeous film, but I never really got on board with the three Sephiroth lites as antagonists. They weren't bad - I loved the manly one of the three and his fight scene in the church was fantastic - but I felt like the entire film was just me waiting to see the real Sephiroth. Which was awesome, for the record. I love the redone track for 'One Winged Angel', too.
