How to differentiate between info dump and not?

I suspect info-dump is a symptom rather than a disease - the symptom reflecting a loss of immersive flow.

To me, that is what keeps the reader engaged with the plot - being caught up in the flow - and info dump (too much of it) distracts from the flow.

sometimes it is good to go into long detail with the story and what is going on and its history, but sometimes and for the purpose of making the book longer, info dumping, just let the history flow into the story every now and again.
