I understand that I am a newbie in Amazon but it seems to me that I just wasted my money for a campaign where I had ZERO clicks.

How much do they want us to pay for a day of promotion to have the book visible?
I set the charge as 5 USD per day. Was it too low level?

Amazon has been nothing but a money pit to me. I would stop using their advertising. It is not the way.

If you're advertising on Amazon, then you're not paying for views. You pay for clicks. So if you have zero clicks you pay zero $. $5 a day is a good enough amount to start with. You need to begin with an idea of where you get views and when those views translate to clicks and those clicks to sales.

How many views you get depends on 2 things: how high you set your maximum cost per click and how well Amazon believes that click will turn into a sale. I haven't looked into what is a good views to click ratio recently. I think it used to be anything above 1-in-1000 was acceptable, and anything over 2% click to sales, but that might just be my brain playing tricks on me.

The thing with clicks is, you need to expect that most clicks will not result in sales. There is a ratio that is favorable to you, and maybe you will hit that...

But if you are paying $5.00 per click, and it takes 100 clicks to get a sale, you are paying $500 to sell one $3.00 book. That is not in your favor.

Getting no clicks is an issue, but its different than getting clicks and no sales.

If you want to master Amazon, good luck. There is more I could say about it, but I would just fill up the post and it still would not be enough.

Amazon ads are unlikely to be aimed at your target audience, you dont have any reader validation (reviews), and you are unknown. Sales dont just happen.

I would suggest hitting up places like Authentic Book Reviews, and Book Roar, and get some reviews for reader validation, and maybe try to find some reciprocating groups on goodreads. Then I would start following ThinkerX's posts on his marketing efforts. He posts a lot of them.

I would also try to find whatever I could on how to do marketing, on youtube, on the web, by meeting other people. Whatever works.

And, Oh yes, networking would be a good thing to do. You are in a writer's community here, popped up a book, and I don't know you at all.

And, you have to be careful with Amazon...if you selected 'sure, you can exceed spend by some % when the sale is likely' expect that cost to explode. It is not unusual to think you are spending $100, and finding out you owe $800.

Personally, I would avoid amazon ads. You likely dont have enough of the right info to make them work.


PS: Your best bet on Amazon is to enroll in KDP select, and let those who subscribe read the book there. You will still make no money, but some may grab it cause it essentially free to them.
