NaNoWriMo 2023

I turn 54 on November 2nd. The holiest day of the year - Melbourne Cup Day - is on November 7th.

At the moment I am just recovering from the news that I got today (Monday, 30th October, NZDST) from the cardiologist. I have weak heart muscles which means it's not quite beating fast enough.

I need a distraction from that. Maybe NaNoWriMo is the distraction I need.

It'll definitely do something about that heartrate.

Unexpectedly, I find myself starting a new novella or novel. I'm not sure which yet. Actually, I started several days ago, so I suppose it's cheating as I already have 7k words. Perhaps I can add another 40 or 50k by the end of the month.

Well, my reviews for Goodreads Review Group #344 are done, no other writing projects ongoing, so...here I am. Yay. Whatever.

The NaNo project is 'Labyrinth: Defender,' third in the Labyrinth series...and a book I've felt ambivalent about for over a decade, ever since finishing a passable draft of book 2, 'Labyrinth: Seed.' How ambivalent? Until a couple months ago, I didn't even have an outline. Large portions of the tale were a complete blank to me - and smaller sections still are. Deal with those when I get there. Another indicator of my ambivalence (and financial issues) is I've pretty much decided to do the covers myself by altering public domain labyrinth images by adding color and icons. Main reason for pushing ahead with this is that with an acceptable rough draft of 'Defender,' I am free to finish polishing up books 1 and 2 and release them into the world.

Maybe I should look over the NaNo site and see what hurdles need bypassing...

Not cheating. Rebelling. :D I'm starting 36k in on my current project. I just want to finish November with 50k more than I started with.

10 minutes to midnight my time and November arrives early. I've had some stomach issues for a while, now, and I just found a letter from my specialist recommending surgery. Joy.

Met my goal for day one twice over, so I'm feeling pretty confident. I'm handwriting my book, so I'm not keeping track of the word count. My only goal is to fill up a 200 sheet wide ruled notebook (I could have sworn I bought college ruled!). Today's goal was to just get two pages written, ended up getting just over six. And that's actually the rate I need to do every day for the rest of this month. I think I got this!
