Reading Like a Reader v. Writer

It would be hard to not read as a writer if things are going wrong and the prose manages to throw us out of scene.

This is true, in which case the work has problems substantial enough to have this effect on a reader. But if you're no longer able to put yourself into the shoes of a "reader" rather than just a writer focused on technicalities, you won't be able to recognize when this happens (or at least not as well).
