As you've all probably heard at one point or another, there's a piece of advice that goes "show, don't tell" and it's thrown about all over the place when writers are trying to get to grips with their art. I know I'm big on this principle. However, there are times when telling is better than showing. It kind of makes sense that there are exceptions to the rule.
