How to capture a dragon ?

hello all ..
I’m seeking some creative ways dragons can be killed and equally creative ways in which dragons can be captured..

I’ve come up with light intensity as a potential capturing method based on an old folktale I read where someone used platinum to reflect the light from the sun and subsequently startled the dragon allowing the person the opportunity to slay the dragon .. But I just don’t feel like that’s solid enough for the novel I’m writing..

Essentially I need the dragon to be captured and contained ... maybe asleep ??

Any ideas are appreciated!!

Carcasses with sleep tonics. Simple but possibly effective. If sheep, doubly so, because then the dragon has to count.

Dragon wranglers with spelled rope that's unbreakable (unless plot reasons).

Depending on size: A cardboard box and cheese.

A dwarf cannonball from the local fantasy circus.

Probably more.
I loveee the carcasses with sleep tonics !! Or maybe it’s the idea of a dragon counting sheep lol !!

Thank you soo much for helping me I appreciate it so much

Welcome. Just hang around and you'll probably get a decent few more idea's. Maybe get grilled about the dragon types you use to get extremely specific.

Capture or kill a dragon? Impossible.

Maybe if you take all of the gold and pile it into a large room, a dragon may come to live there.

Much depends on the size of the dragon, nature of their armor and their weapons, whether or not they can speak, and so on.

Carefully... Very Carefully.
Almost anything could be done but it would have to be consistent with your Dragons. I'd be tempted to go for simple ideas for both capturing and keeping. Less chance for things to go wrong, I would hope.

Im doing a fairly large fire breathing dragon with the ability to shape shift into a human .. not certain if my dragon will speak or not yet .. I was thinking more likely they’d be able to communicate telepathically

You could look into how we caught big predators, or big animals in general, throughout history. You could think of predators used in Roman gladiatoral games or more recently in circuses, look into how they got animals when private zoos were still a thing, or how the Indians and Carthaginians got their elephants.

Sure I could come up with many ways to make the dragon hunt successful. Need to know the world rules, the prey, available tools, and environment.

In a story I wrote a long while back, I did have a dragon subdued by its wings getting torn up. It was a long effort, of encountering it, and making it weaker at each opportunity. The wings were the obvious weak point in my estimation, but....dragons may vary.

Wings do seem to be the easy way out, unless you got someone who wants to use them to ride. Though shapeshifting dragons make it a little harder I suppose. And fully (or near) sapient dragons as Renae has could make going after them even harder. And a particularly devious dragon, well, they can can hunt the hunters. As they join them and then you suddenly have an ongoing murder mystery story.

Though your point stands if dragons don't have wings. Killing and capturing of serpents and wyrms would be harder perhaps then wyvern and other winged dragon types too. Or easier perhaps.

Ya know, I've never known a dragon that would not stop and consider when the opportunity to steal away with a lovely young princess was present. Now if the princess was offered as a sacrifice on a giant hook, well...

Course, beauty does tame the beast, so maybe just try a princess without the hook.

If they have telepathy then perhaps they are susceptible to hypnosis/mind control?
I like this a lot and I'm upset I didn't think of it lol :ROFLMAO: .. thank you so much.. I think this might work the best for me.. although destroying the wings has been suggested and would likely be the easiest way, I do intend for the dragon to fly again
