Just a couple weeks away. How are you preparing (if you are at all)?
What do you plan on working on?

I'll either be doing a series of shorts which can best be explained as Cholos vs Robots (In Space). It's cheesy and ridiculous and I'm loving every minute of it.... Or I'll be resurrecting some older Mystery stuff that I abandoned several months back. Still trying to decide ...

I have no idea yet. I'm actually, right now, in the process of still trying to figure out my plot. I know there's fairies, and one of the main viewpoint characters is the queen of one of the fairy courts (...either she's going to be queen to start off with or I miiiight have it take place before she's queen...I don't know). I know that there's (at least) four fairy courts in one kingdom, and the courts are all ruled by siblings. I'm stuck on the actual plot for the entire story. Which is weird, 'cause usually I feel like I have a basic plot idea first and then have the characters, but nope...not this time.

I'd honestly like to do it but I'm in the middle of a WIP that's got a ways to go--meaning I won't be anywhere near done by the time November rolls around. I'll have to keep working on this book. So maybe I'll use it as my project even though you're technically supposed to start a new one.

I'm pretty sure those rules are just for newbies Writing is hard enough as it is.

There are lots of people that "rebel" for NaNo and keep writing something they're already writing and only count the words they wrote during November. I attempted to do that last year (until school got in the way), which I normally don't do. There are also people who use it for editing instead of actual writing. The fun thing about NaNo is that they'll never know whether or not it's actually a brand new story, 'cause they have no way of tracking that and the whole point is just to get you motivated to write. So I say you should totally go for it and keep writing your current project for NaNo.

What the Musing Knight said. I'll be doing that myself this time round. I have no trouble at all starting a new story--I have a clutch of them muttering at my shoulder--so I'm just going to use Nano as a sort of turbo boost on my WIP.

I'm definitely in. I'm a quarter of the way through Edge of Eternity and many a path to go, so hopefully November will speed it up a bit.

I can't type fast either so just going to settle on the max I can do a day physically, probably 1000 words a day is my max,and I'll do that everyday.

I'll be starting the rewrite of From the Ashes on November first and I hope to get a good chunk of it out of the way during Nano.

There's no shame in that but now that you mention it, it is possible to increase your speed. I've been practicing touch-typing online and I'm up 5 words per minute. That's not huge results, granted, but I've only been doing it for about two weeks... honestly, I'll take any increase I can get. I type around 57wpm but my goal is to eventually get closer to 65 or 70.

I typed 80wpm (self taught, those programs are great!) but my stroke took out both hands at first. I've semi got back one, so my slow typing is down to about 10 wpm with 1 hand. It's a challenge to do capital letters with 1 hand!

My aunt had a stroke not too long ago. I know she had to give up a lot of old hobbies like knitting, but I had never thought about capitals on a keyboard. I suppose an audio transcription program might be helpful ... maybe? Probably lots of errors but it would be hands free

This'll be the first time I've done NaNoWriMo. I feel some trepidation because normally I don't write as fast (or as consistently!) as I'll need to write during November, but I'm needing something to help me kick myself in the *** , a jump start, and I figure that the worst case scenario will be a very rough first draft that can serve as an outline for future drafts, if nothing else.

I've been working on a new story idea for 4-6 weeks that I'll be using. I've already completed a map as well as the major worldbuilding aspects I'll need for the setting and story. I have a named MC I'm still fleshing out and general ideas for other important characters. This weekend I'm going to try to finish finding/creating the names for those other characters. Naming can be a laborious enterprise for me—I spent several weeks just trying to settle on a name for the MC—so I'd like to have that list of names out of the way before November hits.

My biggest issue currently is settling on the precise story I want to tell, the specific plot. I've had a range of potential plots circling a general story idea, all just half steps away from each other, but I want to be clear by November 1st. This means I'll be working on a premise statement and throughline over the remainder of this month. I'm not outlining the story ahead of time however, beyond having a few important beats in mind. I'm going to pants the telling.
