Old Movies that you wish you had seen... (In their Prime)

Old doesn't explicitly mean age or the year that they came out.
I just mean movies that you wish you saw in theaters.

For Me
Studio Ghibli Movies: Especially the scenic ones like Nazuka
Star Wars (Original Trilogy)
Jurassic Park (Original Film)

After I saw Jurassic Park in 1993 I was interviewed by the local paper about what thought of the movie and the CGI dinosaurs.
I missed seeing a restored version of Metropolis [1927 complete with live orchestra] because I had a nephew's wedding to go to.
[Should have gone to see the film as he is now divorced]
I did see 2001: A Space Odyssey [1968] on the big screen but was too young to appreciate it.
Zulu [1964] would also be there as it looks epic!
So Metropolis, 2001 and Zulu are the films I'd like to see on a full size screen.
I saw all 3 original Star Wars as they came out. I fell off my seat when Luke dropped into the Trench on the Death Star.

I watched Metropolis on my computer. It would be different in a theater.
Wizard of Oz- I saw it many times as a child, but on TV.

I dont know. I did see those movies when they came out. Some on opening day :) Which used to be a real accomplishment, but today is not so big a deal.

I've seen, and still watch a lot of old movies. And many of them are pretty darn good movies. You'd be surprised.

I'd not mind going back to an earlier time and seeing them all as new though.

Maybe LOTR trilogy. I was too young to enjoy them back then, but the hype of their midnight premieres would have been cool.

I like seeing movies in theaters, but really it's the company that makes the experience for me. You can still see old movies in theaters these days, but the hype isn't the same as when they first came out, with people who had no idea their life was about to change.

Now, another topic would be, what movie would you like to experience in theaters for the first time again. Like, I'd love to go back in time and experience the premiere of the first Pokemon movies again. Ugh, that stuff. With the special cards that you'd only get if you went on opening night and stuff? Maybe I just want to be a kid with a bunch of fellow kids again.

Edit: I realize I may be ageing myself and others with my not-so-old mentions. lalala~

If you ever choose to partake in 'anime' that are older, highly reccomend Astro Boy (the original one)
A lot of the movies I'd want to see on the big screen get frequent reruns (like the studio ghibli ones) but I dunno, it's not the same 'feeling' as seeing them on the day that they were released, even knowing you went back in time to do so.

Well, the wife said she is giving up TV for lent, so that kills anything I might start for a while. I pretty much watch older stuff anyway, cause all the new stuff sucks.

I think I will stick with Shiboyugi, cause I already started. After that, who knows? I am pretty much running out of stuff on Netflix though, so....

Anyway...I never cared for Fantasia, even after it was a hit. Some of the older Disney one never really appealed to me. I would have enjoyed the movies my dad liked, like Humphrey Bogart, and John Wayne. I've seen a lot of them, but not in the theaters. Star Wars was a huge sensation at its time. I dont know of anything similar. Maybe Gone With the Wind, or the Wizard of Oz.

It might have been nice to have seen the Original King Kong in its time, but...I always had a soft spot for the 70's remake.

Just thinking back, but I would not mind having my first Fellowship of the Ring, or Avatar experience again. Once seen, you cannot relive it the same way. RRR was another one. I was not expecting how comical it would be, and it was not meant to be comedy.

Still...I dont think there is another experience like when Star Wars came out.

It wasn't just the big screen. It was an experience. We have big screens now, but somehow the experience isn't the same. So, while there are movies I should like to have seen on the big screen, it would have to be back in The Day (choose your decade). If I could be in the decade, then here are a few

1950s: High Noon, Sunset Boulevard, Bridge on the River Kwai, Shane, North by Northwest
(I actually did see Ben Hur in the theater)
1960s: The Great Escape, West Side Story, Bonnie and Clyde, Lawrence of Arabia
(I actually did see, Midnight Cowboy and 2001 in the theater)
1970s: I dunno. I've seen many, including Star Wars and Alien. I guess the big blockbuster one I missed would have to be Jaws.

Just a random sampling.

They were all a ton of fun to watch for the first time on the big screen. My oldest kids were small when we went to see JP; the scene with the T-Rex and the Jeep with the kids in it was a little intense for them.

Now there's a thought - I'd love to have seen Akira on the big screen.

I saw Jurassic Park on television at someone else's house a few years after its release. I'm a bit taken aback to realise that it was indeed 30 years ago! (33 since release.)
