I finally got up the guts to start a blog, myself, in part because of this thread. O.O I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to say, but I told all 26 of our fans so I guess I'm committed now! lol

Good luck A.E! If you want advice on what to blog about, there are tons of guides on the internet that mention such methods. Something I'm doing with my blog is that I'm going to offer a Fantasy Writer Spotlight once a month to allow writers to share some things they're working on, do interviews, share art, just anything in general. I'm looking for someone for November, so if someone is interested, I'd be willing to give you a spot.

If you want some blogging advice, I moderate Reddit's /r/blogging and while the sub is fairly quiet, it's been picking up in the last couple of weeks and those who are there tend to be willing to help. And of course there's me there. So pop by.

I signed up for Reddit a while back but haven't visited it much. I'll have to come around and check it out. I'm interested to hear what other people who blog have to say about various topics. I know there's supposed to be some method to "maximize results" or whatever, but for now I just enjoy posting whatever I want and seeing what people seem to be interested in the most. One of my more widely commented on posts had something to do with killing off main characters. So yeah...

Your blog can be a great place to tell people about your book(s). I just finished a series about where the inspiration for my characters came from. I've also been known to blog about a piece of publishing news that pushed my buttons.
Two tips to start with:
- Blog on a regular schedule. Your dedicated readers will learn your schedule and will visit around the time a new post should be going up. If you miss a scheduled post (as I have in the past) apologize in the next post.
- Get yourself a Twitter account if you don't already have one and set WordPress to automatically tweet each new post. It's one of the best ways to drive traffic to your blog. You should also put the Twitter feed widget on your blog, so the blog will drive Twitter followers too. (See my blog and Twitter feed for an example)

This is wild stuff! Just to illustrate how potentially effective a tool blogging is, I wrote my first post around 1:30am after constructing the page before heading to bed. I woke up with 5 followers, only 1 I know!

Twitter is easy. Just remember 140. That's how many characters total each tweet can have.
