Elder Scrolls Online (MMO): Beta Signup

Wow, they sure want a lot of your data.

This could be a major time and money suck for a lot of people.

Nothing's going to be a WoW-killer. It has too much momentum to stop.

That said, I play WoW and I signed up for this. There's no reason I can't try both. ESO has great potential, but WoW is the MMO that best fits with my playstyle. Whether or not ESO will change that remains to be seen.

Playing GW2 and Secret World right now. I like both of them. I've tried to like WoW half a dozen times, since I have friends who play, but I just can't.

I have yet to try Secret World, but it does sound quite fun. Guild Wars 2 was very well done, and I liked the Events system.

However, I have been tricked into buying games that are either carbon copies of WoW (Aion) or that promise awesome PvP and don't deliver (Global Agenda), so I'm going to stick with what I know until something truly awesome comes along. I really hope ESO is that something, but I can't be sure until I actually play the beta, if I get in.

You might like Secret World. It has some nice, challenging moments. In fact, getting through the investigation missions without looking up hints can be tough. There was one mission where I found an ID badge and it was a clue to the mission I was on. I spent quite a while trying to figure out how the badge fit in, because I was trying to access a password-protected file and it appeared the password was the name of the spouse of the dead guy I got the badge from. Well, turns out that Funcom set up a fake internet site for the company the guy worked for, and if you went on the internet and searched for this company, then went to their web site and found the employee directory, you could look this guy up and find his spouse's first name. I thought that was pretty cool (and only a minor spoiler, I hope; the investigation quests in Secret World are fun and some of them are very tough).

It's subscription-free now, if you want to try it.

That does sound awesome. Is the game itself free now, or just subscription free? I just pre-purchased the Dragonborn DLC, and I'm trying to save up for a computer upgrade, so I'm not intent on buying any games anytime soon.

Sweet, thanks for the link!

I don't think it's a wow-killer, and seriously... I don't care, hahaha! I mean, it's healthy to have other options. It's not because Elder Scroll Online is coming out that I've stopped playing WoW, it's because I've played WoW enough to get tired of it! If the only MMO of the world were WoW, I would still not play it.

Sometimes all you want is something different or fresh approach of the genre. Even if you loved something in the past, after playing it for years you're going to get tired of it.
